Avis began operations in India in 1999 as a joint venture with the Luxury Hotel Group, Oberoi and has become a leading international car rental company with over 30 locations in the 14 major cities in India. Today, Avis is the only international car rental brand operating exclusively at Delhi Airport (onsite).

Avis became the first international car rental company to enter into an equity joint venture for the Chinese market when in January 2002 we signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation - one of China's largest automotive groups - making us the largest international Rent A Car Company in China.
